I think we all have that one person we feel just won’t leave us alone. Only imagine you haven’t spoken to this person in months, and you haven’t seen them in months either. The last time you did see them, the five-word conversation you had was rushed, irritating, and slightly awkward.
You would have cut this person off if you hadn’t known them for so long, and if you weren’t secretly fascinated by them.
Every so often you’ll check their social media to see what they’re up to, which is typically nothing at all, but you check anyway. Because you’re so oddly curious about this person’s life that you can’t be in, you grow jealous of the people around them. And suddenly, you’re in this frenzy of melancholy nostalgia that guides you to think of when you first met this person.
You think, and think, and think, to no avail. You can’t remember how you met this person, you can’t remember why you were ever friends with them, but you remember them because they seem to be living an interesting life that you want to live as well.
Then you begin to remember, this is just a normal person. Their partner is normal, their job is normal, and what they had for dinner last night was probably normal too.
But some odd force drags you toward your phone, and now you’re back at square one wondering what they wore yesterday, their mother’s name, and the location of their last family reunion.
So even though this person hasn’t spoken to you since your distant cousin Lenny’s bar mitzvah, they just won’t leave you alone.
